ClearWatt partners with the BVRLA to build confidence in used EVs
ClearWatt has partnered with the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) to bring practical vehicle-specific information to independent dealers through EV Retail Ready, a new industry-backed training programme.
As a BVRLA Associate Member and data partner, we’re supporting the programme with access to the ClearWatt EV Explorer, helping dealership teams answer customer questions about batteries, charging and real-world range, alongside wider vehicle characteristics.
Practical support for independent dealers
As more electric cars enter the used market, independent dealers have an important role in finding their next owners. Yet they may not have access to the manufacturer training available to franchised networks.
EV Retail Ready has been developed by the BVRLA, the Independent Motor Dealers Association (IMDA) and EVA England. Its free online training covers commercial viability, energy and charging, in-life costs and the customer journey, with learning completed at each individual’s own pace.
Commenting on the programme’s launch, Toby Poston, BVRLA chief executive, said:
“EV Retail Ready offers independent dealers free access to practical support. The industry has come together because a healthy used EV market benefits everyone; fleets, dealers and, ultimately, motorists looking for an affordable route into electric driving.”
Bringing learning into customer conversations
The ClearWatt EV Explorer complements that training by bringing together battery specifications, charging performance, official range figures and ClearWatt’s real-world range guidance for specific models and specifications.
It also provides wider vehicle information, including body style and the number of seats. These details help dealers answer everyday questions about the kind of car a customer is looking for, alongside questions about going electric. Bringing this information together gives dealership teams a practical reference for conversations about how a model could fit a customer’s needs.
Official laboratory range figures provide a useful, standardised benchmark, but everyday performance varies with temperature, driving conditions and vehicle specification. The Explorer helps dealers put those figures into context using real-world range estimates.
The Explorer focuses on the characteristics of the model and specification; it does not assess the battery condition of an individual used vehicle. ClearWatt’s separate battery testing products assess individual vehicles, providing evidence about their battery condition and real-world performance.
This partnership reflects our wider ambition to make EV intelligence accessible wherever decisions are made, from training platforms and vehicle listings to showroom conversations and ownership.
By combining practical training with a consistent source of EV information and wider model details, we can help dealership teams have more informed, confident conversations and support customers in choosing an EV that suits their needs.
